Sparkling Success
We were able to enjoy a really lovely team get-together in the sunshine on Friday 24 May. After our fabulous day out at Balfour last year, we asked Emma Broom of Opulence Bespoke Wine Experiences to once again organise it all for us and she once again did a really super job!
This time we went to Herbert Hall Winery, where we enjoyed a tour of the winery and discovered more about its single estate English sparkling wines. We all also learnt to sabrage – a very exciting way to remove a cork from a bottle!
The original Herbert Hall came to Marden at the end of the 19th century and became a tenant farmer on a ten-acre site, where he grew hops, apples, pears and plums. He built a farm, which has remained in the Hall family for three generations. In 2007, his great grandson, the winemaker, Nicholas Hall, planted a vineyard with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes. Today, Nicholas works with fellow winemaker, Kirsty Smith – who welcomed us last Friday – to produce wines of exceptional quality.
A big thanks to Emma and Kirsty for making our afternoon really special!
